Get That Bag: Where to buy suitcases, luggage, and carry-on bags in Tokyo, Japan

A Tokyo shopping spree, a stuffed suitcase on the floor of the hotel room the night before you head to the airport... does this story sound familiar? Not to worry! In this article, I’ll suggest a few specialty luggage stores and chains where you can pick up suitcases and other luggage and include a detailed list of stores by major train stations and tourist areas with Google Maps pins for easy access.

Ginza Karen - Buy Affordable Suitcases and Luggage in Ginza and Asakusa

Ginza Karen is the number one stop for a huge variety of reasonably priced luggage in Tokyo. There are two shops conveniently located in Nihonbashi and Asakusa, two popular tourist spots, as well as a store in Osaka if you’re traveling to Kansai. Both shops offer tax-free shopping for international visitors and stay open late if you've got a flight to catch early the next day. If you’re in the area, Ginza Karen is the most reliable option for buying suitcases and other bags in Tokyo.

Don Quijote - Buy Suitcases and Luggage in Shinjuku, Asakusa, and more

Don Quijote, Japan’s popular variety store, is also a great option for luggage of all sizes. If you find yourself filling up too many baskets with KitKats and penguin plushies (read about Donki and its adorable mascot here!), you may need to pick up a suitcase for your purchases anyway! I bought a small carry-on suitcase at Donki a few years ago for a reasonable price, and it has held up with no issues at all. There are many Don Quijote shops across Tokyo open late with no holidays, so check out the list below to see which is most accessible for you.

Buy Suitcases in Tokyo Train Stations and Department Stores

Major train stations in Tokyo often have one or more department stores in or around the station. Department stores near Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ikebukuro usually have luggage and bag stores where you can find suitcases, though they may be a little more expensive than the options I presented above. If this is the best option for you, I recommend asking for stores that sell suitcases at department store information desks, which are located on the main floors and usually have English support.
